The laboratory

The laboratory.

Edge Quantum 65 is a research and development laboratory, in Lannemezan, in the Hautes-Pyrénées. I work there alone. A laboratory lives on what it can prove: here, each building block is first validated on a test bench, with figures that anyone can verify. What is not measured is not published.

I — The work

Two activities, one laboratory.

The laboratory has two activities. The first, embedded technology: modules that are installed on a machine, learn its usual operation and alert staff before the breakdown. The second, the technology portfolio: documented dossiers, offered for assignment — other forms on a case-by-case basis; the most advanced are frozen and timestamped.

Both come from the same place and the same method. That is the laboratory: not a product, but what produces them.

Embedded technology

What is installed in the machine

A local module designed to observe a machine, learn its usual operation and warn before the breakdown. Validated in simulation; the first real-machine trial is still ahead. Nothing leaves without the client's decision.

Technology portfolio

What is licensed

Complete dossiers: problem, state of the art, solution, technical contributions, evidence. Shared under a confidentiality agreement, for an assignment — other forms on a case-by-case basis.

167 patents · 6 assets in the pipeline · 6 R&D programs

II — The test bench

The chess engine as a test bench.

It is the training laboratory. In chess, the result is clear-cut — you win or you lose — and it is a demanding testing ground for everything related to NNUE: quantization, incremental update, calibration.

What is validated here is then transposed onto physical machines, where the truth is no longer a result but a consumption, a vibration, a temperature.

What broke is published too. In late July, five critical defects were identified in the Rust port — enumeration offset, mirroring of the black perspective, output scaling factor, UCI stop flag, move priority order — then fixed. The correction traces are kept in the code history.

III — Moving to the physical

Two demonstrators.

Mechanical

Parametric enclosure

Design, not yet printed. An open enclosure, drawn in parametric CAD and printable. Two slots for fasteners, screwed cover. Designed to be potted in resin once sealed.

Sensor chain

Acquisition of vibration, temperature and current on a microcontroller, then injection into the neural network.

Observation comes first. The proposed module only observes an existing machine and signals an emerging drift. It never controls it: the action remains with the staff.

IV — Method

How I work.

I.

Proof before publication

Every published figure must be reproducible against the code or the laboratory's inventory. Otherwise it stays internal.

II.

Timestamping

Important milestones — bench results, decisions, reviews — are timestamped (a dated hash receipt). The proof exists without any server holding the content.

III.

One thing at a time

I work on a single topic per session, I do not touch code that works, and I improvise no optimization.

On the publication of code. The laboratory works in private repositories: the final weights, the keys and the industrial secrets never leave the workshop. The software components intended for the public are published progressively, as they are stripped of these elements.

V — The setting

Lannemezan, Hautes-Pyrénées.

I work in Lannemezan, in the Hautes-Pyrénées. I do everything myself, from the first to the last gesture: I write the software, I wire the sensors, I assemble the module. The company is being created.
